Plumbing Planned Around Your New Layout

A remodel plumbing contractor handles the pipes, drains and valves that have to move when a kitchen, bathroom or basement changes layout. Samuel Construction Group plans and installs remodel plumbing in Frederick, MD and Hagerstown as part of our remodeling projects, with Maryland licensed plumbers doing the plumbing and our own crew handling the walls, floors and tile around it. One team, one schedule and one invoice, licensed under MHIC #134199 with more than 15 years of experience.

Remodel Plumbing Services

  • Bathroom remodel plumbing: moving toilets, vanities and shower drains, new shower valves, tub to shower conversions and double vanities.
  • Kitchen remodel plumbing: relocating the sink to an island, new dishwasher, ice maker and pot filler lines, and garbage disposal circuits coordinated with the electrician.
  • Basement bathroom rough in: under slab drain lines, ejector or upflush systems when there is no gravity drain, and venting.
  • Laundry room moves: new washer boxes, drains and dryer venting when the laundry moves upstairs or into a closet.
  • Repipes during remodels: replacing galvanized, polybutylene or corroded copper lines while the walls are already open.
  • Water heaters: tank and tankless replacement, expansion tanks and code upgrades.

Why Remodel Plumbing Is Different From Repair Plumbing

A repair plumber fixes what is there. Remodel plumbing changes where things go, which means new drain slope, venting, framing changes and permits. If the plumbing is planned before demolition, the finished room can have the layout you actually want instead of the one the old pipes allow. That is why we plan plumbing, framing and electrical together during the estimate, and why we open walls and floors only once.

What Moving a Fixture Involves

Moving a sink or vanity a few feet along the same wall is usually simple. Moving a toilet or shower drain is a bigger job because the drain needs the right slope back to the stack and a proper vent, which can mean opening the subfloor or, in a basement, cutting the slab. Moving a kitchen sink to an island needs a drain path under the floor and an island vent. We show you these trade offs in the estimate so the layout and the budget line up before work starts.

Permits and Inspections in Frederick County

New plumbing, moved drains and new fixtures generally need a plumbing permit and inspections from Frederick County, the City of Frederick or Washington County, depending on the address. The licensed plumber pulls the permit, rough in is inspected before walls close, and final inspection happens when fixtures are set. We schedule all of it as part of the project.

Our Remodel Plumbing Process

  1. Free estimate: we walk the space, check where the stack, main and water heater are, and price the layout you want.
  2. Plan and permit: plumbing, framing and electrical are planned together and permits are filed.
  3. Rough in: drains, vents and supply lines are installed, pressure tested and inspected.
  4. Close up and finish: our crew handles drywall, tile and flooring, then fixtures are set and tested.
  5. Final inspection and walkthrough, with every connection checked for leaks.

Remodel Plumbing Cost

Cost depends mostly on how far fixtures move and what is in the way. Swapping fixtures in place is the least expensive. Moving a toilet or shower drain, adding a basement bathroom or relocating a kitchen sink costs more because of drain work, venting and floor or slab repair. We give a written price with the plumbing broken out so you can compare layouts. For full room budgets, see our bathroom remodel cost guide and kitchen remodel cost guide for Frederick.

Plumbing Inside a Full Remodel

Most of our remodel plumbing is part of a larger project: bathroom remodeling in Frederick, shower and bathtub installation, kitchen remodeling and basement finishing. For stand alone repairs and fixture work, see our plumbing services in Frederick, MD.

Remodel Plumbing FAQs

Can you move a toilet during a bathroom remodel? Usually yes. The drain needs proper slope and venting, so on an upper floor we may open the subfloor, and on a slab we cut and patch the concrete. We confirm it during the estimate.

Can I add a bathroom in my basement? Yes. If the basement has a drain below the floor we tie into it; if not, we install an ejector or upflush system. Venting and a permit are required either way.

Do you do plumbing without a full remodel? Yes, see our plumbing services page for repairs, fixtures and water heaters.

Who pulls the plumbing permit? The licensed plumber on the job pulls it, and we schedule the rough in and final inspections as part of the project.
